Public member Suzanne Baird was appointed to the Outdoor Heritage Council by the Governor in 2024, to fill a mid-term vacancy. Her term ends January 2027.
Suzanne received her Master’s Degree in Wildlife Science from Texas A&M University in 1985. She spent 37 years working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) in the National Wildlife Refuge System primarily managing National Wildlife Refuges across the county. She recently retired from the USFWS after serving as the Midwest Regional Chief of the National Wildlife Refuge System. Suzanne has a passion for conservation, restoration, and acquisition of natural resources as demonstrated from her years of service in National Wildlife Refuge management.She has a passion for the outdoors and is a late-onset hunter who enjoys upland bird hunting with her two labrador retrievers, waterfowl hunting, as well as big game hunting. She also has a strong interest in introducing women to shooting and hunting sports and teaches a class on Women Learning to Pheasant Hunt. Suzanne also enjoys fishing with friends and just getting outdoors on public lands.
